Fabric Colors - Color Basics

Color Wheel

Ever wonder about what category a certain color falls under? Here is a quick synopsis to help figure out this question.

Colors are described as cool or warm depending on its position in the color spectrum and the hues of its nearest neighboring color.

Red, orange and yellow are warm colors, while violet and blue are cool colors. Green is said to be the most neutral color.

Colors are further categorized into primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Primary colors are blue, red, and yellow. These are pure colors that have no component other than themselves.

Secondary colors are orange, green and purple. These are composed of the primary colors on either side of it on the color wheel. Orange is made form red and yellow, Green is made of yellow and blue, Purple is made of blue and red.

Tertiary colors are orange-red, orange-yellow, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-purple, and red-purple. Tertiary colors assume more of one color than the other.

Mystery Quilt Block of the Month

What is a Mystery Quilt? Well... it’s a mystery. Everyone needs a little mystery in their lives. Come solve the mystery with us!

You don’t know what the quilt is going to look like until you receive the last clue. Each month there will be a new clue or step in making the quilt. The quilt will be displayed at the end, but by then you will already know what it will look like.

Each clue and kit will be released on the 5th of each month.

Beginning January 2012.

No earlier. Registration fee includes first months clue and kit.

Beginning Piecing 101 class

Just finished our second week of the Beginning Piecing 101 class. The quilts are coming along great! Everyone is having a great time. Here is some of the blocks for my quilt. I still haven't decided how big to make the quilt and I have to decide by Wednesday. Any suggestions?

Upcoming Classes and Events

I can't believe that August is here already. Where did summer go? School is back in session by the end of the month and so are our classes.

August 12th at 1pm is our Rag Rug Class. Always a fun class and a great way to use those fabrics that you wonder what why you purchased them or any scraps leftover from projects. Rugs make great gifts for Christmas. $40.00 for a 3 hour class includes instruction booklet, needle, and hands on instruction.

Our Back to School Sale is August 12-13th. Receive 10% off your total product purchase.

Sampler Block of the Month class is August 22nd at 4:30pm. Come sample your way through 12 of the 365 different patterns available in the Block a Day Calendar book and companion cd. This class is fun for beginners as well as advanced quilters alike. $50.00 registration fee includes pattern book and companion cd along with 1st months block.

We also have a Beginning Piecing 101 class with sessions starting on Thursday, September 15th at 1pm & Saturday, September 17th at 11 am. This is a 3 part class teaching the following skills and techniques: pattern reading, cutting, pressing, ruler techniques, piecing, and borders. This class is free with Beginning Piecing Kit purchase. Kit must be purchased prior to registering for class. Kit sizes vary. Visit store for details.

Rag Rug Class

For those of you wondering when our next Rag Rug Class is going to be held; it will be August 12th at 1:00 pm. This is an excellent project for those "Why did I buy this?" fabrics.
This is a 3 hour class. We ask that you register and recommend that you pick up your supply list no later than 1 week prior to class. This way you will have time to do the prep work.

Just look at the gorgeous rug that one of our students brought in after taking the class.

Upcoming Classes

Our Block -A- Day Sampler Block of the Month starts July 9th at 9:30 am. Each month we will focus on a new block with new techniques. All skill levels welcome. Registration fee is $50.00 and includes pattern book, companion cd, and first months block. A demo is displayed in store.

July 9th also is our Rag Rug Making Class. We teach a fun and no sew easy way to make a braided rug. Use scraps from your stash or pieces that you're not quite sure why you got them. This is a 3 hour class. Prep work is necessary so be sure to sign up early to get the supply sheet and prep instructions. Class fee is $40.00 and includes pattern booklet, needle, and hands on instruction.

Beginning Piecing 101 starts July 16th this is a 3 part class. This is a small class where we teach basic quilting skills from cutting, pressing, and piecing. By end of class you will have a quilt top ready for quilting.
Purchase the quilt top kit and the class is free (kit purchase is required). A Class demo is on display in the store.

Class registration forms are available in store or if you would like to register over the phone;
call 801-796-1533 and we will take your credit card over the phone. All class fees must be paid prior to attending class.

Promenade and 4th of July

For those of you wanting to enhance your color coordinating skills we have the class for you. Class is Saturday May 21st at 10:30am. There are still a few spots left. Class fee is $10.00.

If you love the look of applique and not quite sure how to do it we have the class for you.
Our Beginning Machine Applique.
Come learn 3 easy ways to applique your designs on whatever project you may be working on. We will be creating a fun Decorative Pillow in this 2 week class. A fabric kit and pattern book is included. You will have a finished project when class is done. Class fee is $40.00. Class starts Tuesday May 24th 4-6pm.

Beginning Piecing-101 Class is free w/kit purchase.
Let us guide you all the way through your girst quilt. 3 free classes where you will learn many basic techniques from cutting to pressing, how to use several rulers, seam allowance, block layout, and simple borders. You will start piecing in class and will have a cute quilt when you are done. Even if you have sewn before, this is a great beginning or refresher course. Kit purchase is required to register 2 color ways to choose from. Please pick up kit and supply list prior to the 1st day of class. Class size is limited.
Project Demo is on display. Class starts Wednesday June 8th at 5:00pm.
